I always get so excited for the change in season (not that there is really a difference in the weather here in southern California) but I love seeing the new trends on the runways for Fall. I like to play around in my closet and see how I can style what I already own in different ways and also take notes on what I might want to add to my wardrobe based on my inspirations.

This Fall, I am really loving playing around with accessories. It's so easy to completely change the look of your outfit by adding jewelry, a hat, etc.

I am especially loving oversized earrings as seen by Gucci and Valentino.

I also can't get enough of menswear accents such as suspenders, newsboy caps, and ties!

Conversely, pearls and brooches add a more feminine touch to an outfit:

Hair accessories are so simple to wear but can add so much drama:

I also am loving socks with different textures and bright colors:

Nautical collars and sailor stripes have been inspiring me lately:

You can't go wrong with plaids and tartan for Fall:

What accessories are inspiring you this season?

Hi, my name is Lauren and I'm addicted to {wearing} berets. No, I'm not trying to be French...I just have a huge appreciation for (an apparently flat) hat. It all started in 2017 when I became enamored by the Dior leather beret that was shown in the fall runway show.

I tracked it down on Vestiare for a fraction of the retail price and so my obsession with berets began. I then discovered the denim veiled version on the site- so of course I added that one to my wardrobe as well. Then I must have subconsciously decided that I needed a beret for each day of the week. My favorites are a vintage sequin beret by Chanel, a wool Gucci beret, and my most recent tweed addition by Patou- chin strap included. (All of these I have found secondhand or on sale!)

I have come to the conclusion that a beret elevates ANY outfit. Take a cue from Zimmermann and wear one with a dress.

Pair a beret with your basic jeans and t shirt and now you've got yourself a look. Wear one with anything! I guarantee you, it will work. Or at least I think so!

Even though my style icons have changed over the years- and they couldn't be more different from one another, I've always had a huge appreciation for people who wear what they like and have an unapologetic attitude toward their fashion choices. Not to be cliche, but the Olsen twins continue to inspire me. I love their oversize/disproportional dressing and how they mix vintage with current designers.

Another style hero who I still admire today is Leandra Medine Cohen. She coined an unusual term when describing personal style: "man repelling." Leandra epitomizes dressing for yourself and wearing what makes your heart flutter. She had a blog and Instagram page dedicated to feathers, sequins, overalls, ugly shoes, crazy sunglasses, etc. She deemed these things as "man repellers" as they are fashion choices not often understood by our male counterparts. (I would list my love of berets under this "man repeller" category). Although the blog is no longer, I still have a huge appreciation for her supporting the idea of not always wearing what is considered "attractive" and instead choosing pieces that just speak to your soul.

My last fashion icon is the maximalist queen, Iris Apfel. My husband even referenced her in our wedding vows! (To clarify, he was referring to what he thinks I will be like as I get older- which to me, is the greatest compliment he could have given me haha!) I mean, who wouldn't want to "grow up" to be Iris? If you aren't familiar with her, she wears incredible oversized round glasses and always looks like she piled on every accessory she owns in each of her outfits. (Think statement jewelry, fur, print mixing.) Do you ever feel like wearing all of your favorite accessories, all at once, on some days? I certainly do. It makes me feel happy. I used to joke with my friends that the more sparkly my outfit was, it meant that I had needed a little"pick me up" so to speak when I was getting ready that day. Sequins are a very effective mood booster if you ask me! Can one feel the slightest bit down when looking like a disco ball? It's pretty difficult- I know from experience! That leads me to thinking that getting dressed really can be therapeutic... But that's a thought for another day. Who are your style icons?
